Someone is using my name in an attempt to scam people. I am not now nor have I ever been looking for any kind of assistant. I certainly wouldn't ever ask anyone to cash a check to me or to make a Western Union payment to anyone else (especially not someone in Manilla!). This is a classic Fake Check scam. So this summer I said to myself "I think I'll run a marathon." My initial thought is that I would look for one sometime in the summer or early fall of 2006. I went to http://www.runnersworld.com to look up training plans and they gave me one that could get me from basically couch to marathon in 3 months. They also had a list of upcoming marathons and the 2005 Seattle marathon was going to happen on the 27th of November. So I decided that I was going to train up and do it.

I did (in 4 hours, 32 minutes, and 36 seconds), and here are the pictures to prove it.

A picture of me right before I get ready to go run the marathon. I was so nervous, I have no idea why. I wasn't racing, I was only there to finish the run but I was still nervous. I was worried that it was going to rain like crazy too. When we were driving up we had to turn our windshield wiper on the fastest setting because it was raining so hard. But I decided to not wear the warm wicking layer under the longsleeved tee and that turned out to be the best idea ever. It was a beautiful day and I accomplished my goals.

The full marathon runners line up on 5th and Harrison in Seattle (right next to the Experience Music Project and just yards from the Space Needle) and prepare for the start of the race.

The 2005 Harrisdirect Seattle Marathon gets under way. The guy in the bright yellow ended up in first place (for at least the 5th year in a row) the guy in orange was in second and the guy out front with the navy shirt on wasn't even close to them at the end (although they all beat me by hours).

Look who's all smiles at the beginning of the race. It's a lot of fun now sucker, but just wait until mile 25!

Here is a picture of my cheering section (minus my wife who is taking the shot) at mile 17. They had been waiting for over an hour to see me at this point. Mile 8 started an out and back that ended at around mile 17 or so and that's where they waited to catch me.

This was at mile 17 and it was the first time that I saw my cheerleading section. They had been hot on my heels the whole day apparently but up until this point our paths hadn't crossed yet. It was definitely a good time to see them, it pumped me up.
